GETTING TO KNOW RACHEL BOOMSMA:

Rachel Boomsma, a senior at Wolsey-Wessington High School, began her athletic career early, with competitive cheer becoming a part of her life in the first grade. Over the years, she has honed her skills and risen to become the team captain, leading her cheer team to take 1st at State this past October. Her freshman-year “Most Improved Award” highlights the growth she has achieved throughout her cheer career. Rachel is also an accomplished volleyball player, having joined the sport in 5th grade after being inspired by her sisters. This past season, she served as the varsity volleyball team captain, demonstrating not only her skills on the court but also her natural leadership abilities.

Reflecting on her experiences, Rachel explains, “Hard work comes with a good mindset. I have always tried to give my best effort and best attitude at every practice, every game, and every competition.” Through cheer and volleyball, she has learned invaluable life lessons about teamwork, self-control, and the discipline needed to grow as an athlete and individual. Rachel’s cheer coach, Brandee Kelsey, shared, “Rachel has proven to be an exceptional athlete, an exemplary student, and a role model to her teammates.”

Balancing her busy sports schedule hasn’t stopped Rachel from excelling academically and contributing to her community. Proudly maintaining a 4.0 GPA, Rachel’s achievements go far beyond the classroom. She serves as the chapter reporter for both HOSA and FFA, competes in the Quiz Bowl, and participates in numerous extracurricular activities such as STEM club, drama, oral interpretation, and band. Beyond her impressive achievements, Rachel’s compassion sets her apart. Her coach reflects, “She is genuinely one of the kindest people I have had the pleasure of coaching. She treats everyone with respect and brings a positive, encouraging attitude to every practice and event. Her kindness and warmth have created an inclusive, supportive environment that has enriched our team.” While Rachel is still exploring her college options, she plans to pursue a career in Radiologic Technology. With her dedication, talent, and kindness, Rachel undoubtedly has a bright future ahead.
